These Terms & Conditions apply to courses and tuition services provided by British Tutors. By purchasing or enrolling on a course, the person making the booking agrees to these Terms & Conditions.

1. About British Tutors

British Tutors provides online tuition for school-aged students, including courses at KS3, IGCSE and International A-Level level.

Courses may include subjects such as Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and may cover Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and other examination specifications where stated.

Lessons are delivered online through live virtual classrooms, generally in small groups, according to the course information provided at the time of enrolment.

2. Booking & Payment

2.1. A student’s place is confirmed once the required payment has been successfully received.

2.2. Courses may be purchased by term, course, programme or other block of lessons, as stated on the relevant course page or at the time of booking.

2.3. Unless otherwise agreed, payment must be received before the student begins the relevant course or block of lessons.

2.4. British Tutors may suspend or refuse access to lessons where payment has not been received when due.

2.5. Prices shown on the British Tutors website are in GBP unless otherwise stated.

Where payment is made from another country or currency, the customer’s bank or payment provider may apply its own exchange rate or fees. British Tutors is not responsible for exchange-rate differences or charges imposed by a customer’s bank or payment provider.

2.6. Lesson times will be shown using the time zone stated on the relevant course information. Parents and guardians are responsible for checking the correct local time before booking and attending lessons.

2.7. The parent or guardian making the booking is responsible for ensuring that information supplied during enrolment is accurate and that the selected course is appropriate for the student.

3. Cancellation, Cooling-Off Period & Refunds

3.1 Statutory cancellation period

Where a course is purchased online by a consumer, the purchaser will normally have the right to cancel the contract within 14 days from the day after the contract is entered into, subject to applicable UK consumer law.

3.2 Courses beginning during the cancellation period

Where you ask British Tutors to begin providing lessons during the 14-day cancellation period, you expressly request that the service begins before the cancellation period has ended.

If you subsequently cancel during that 14-day period after lessons have begun, British Tutors may deduct or charge a proportionate amount for the services already provided up to the time you notified us of the cancellation.

3.3 Services already fully provided

Where a service has been fully performed during the cancellation period following your express request for it to begin, your statutory cancellation right may end once the service has been fully provided, where permitted by law.

3.4 After the statutory cancellation period

Once the applicable statutory cancellation period has expired, course fees are generally non-refundable where the student chooses to withdraw from the course.

This does not affect any legal rights you may have where British Tutors has failed to provide the service with reasonable care and skill or has otherwise breached its legal obligations.

3.5 Lessons already delivered

No refund will be provided for lessons that have already been delivered, except where required by law.

3.6 Student absence

Fees are not refunded because a student is unable or chooses not to attend a scheduled lesson.

3.7 Exceptional circumstances

British Tutors may consider exceptional circumstances on an individual basis. Any discretionary refund or credit offered in one case does not create an obligation to provide the same outcome in another case.

3.8 How to cancel

Cancellation requests should be sent to British Tutors using the contact email shown on our website.

4. Attendance & Missed Lessons

4.1. Students are expected to attend scheduled lessons punctually and regularly.

4.2. Where a student misses a scheduled group lesson, the lesson will not normally be rescheduled or refunded.

4.3. British Tutors may, where available, provide lesson materials, resources or recordings following an absence. The availability of these materials is not guaranteed unless expressly included as part of the course.

4.4. Students remain responsible for catching up on work missed through absence.

5. Online Lesson Conduct

5.1. Students must behave respectfully towards tutors and other students.

5.2. Students should join lessons on time with an appropriate device, internet connection and any materials required for the lesson.

5.3. Students are expected to participate appropriately in lessons.

5.4. Where reasonably required for teaching, safeguarding or participation, students may be encouraged to use their camera. Any specific camera requirements will be communicated where appropriate.

5.5. Behaviour that is abusive, threatening, discriminatory, disruptive or otherwise inappropriate will not be accepted.

5.6. British Tutors may temporarily remove a student from a lesson where necessary to protect the learning environment or the welfare of other participants.

5.7. Serious or repeated misconduct may result in suspension or termination of a student’s enrolment.

Where British Tutors terminates an enrolment because of serious or repeated misconduct, any decision regarding fees for undelivered lessons will be made reasonably, taking into account the circumstances and applicable consumer law.

6. Safeguarding & Communication

6.1. Lessons are provided online. Parents and guardians remain responsible for ensuring that students have an appropriate environment from which to participate.

6.2. Students should attend lessons from a safe and suitable location.

6.3. Communication concerning enrolment, payment, scheduling and other administrative matters will normally take place through British Tutors’ approved communication channels.

6.4. British Tutors takes safeguarding seriously and expects tutors and students to communicate appropriately and professionally.

6.5. Where a safeguarding concern arises, British Tutors may take appropriate action and may share relevant information where necessary or required to protect a child or comply with legal or safeguarding obligations.

7. Academic Outcomes

7.1. British Tutors aims to provide high-quality tuition designed to improve students’ subject knowledge and examination preparation.

7.2. However, British Tutors cannot guarantee a particular examination grade, assessment result, school outcome or level of academic progress.

7.3. Academic outcomes may be affected by factors including attendance, participation, independent study, completion of assigned work and the student’s existing level of attainment.

8. Intellectual Property

8.1. Unless otherwise stated, course materials, worksheets, presentations, teaching resources, recordings and other original materials supplied by British Tutors remain the intellectual property of British Tutors and/or the relevant rights holder.

8.2. Materials supplied to students are for the enrolled student’s personal educational use only.

8.3. Course materials must not be reproduced, uploaded, published, sold, commercially distributed or shared with persons outside the student’s household without prior permission.

8.4. Students and parents must not record, copy, stream, publish or distribute live lessons or recordings without prior permission from British Tutors.

8.5. Nothing in these Terms prevents use that is permitted by law.

9. Lesson Changes, Tutors & Course Availability

9.1. British Tutors may occasionally need to change a lesson time, tutor, teaching platform or other administrative arrangement.

9.2. We will provide reasonable notice where practicable.

9.3. If British Tutors cancels a scheduled lesson, we will normally provide a replacement lesson, reschedule the session, provide an appropriate alternative or offer a suitable credit or refund where appropriate.

9.4. Some group courses require a minimum number of enrolled students.

If minimum enrolment is not reached, British Tutors may cancel, postpone or combine a class. Where this materially affects a customer’s booking, we will offer an appropriate alternative or a refund for the affected undelivered service.

9.5. British Tutors may change the tutor assigned to a course where necessary. Any replacement tutor will be appropriately selected to deliver the relevant course.

10. Technical Requirements & Technical Problems

10.1. Students are responsible for having suitable internet access, a compatible device and any software reasonably required to participate in online lessons.

10.2. British Tutors is not responsible for lessons missed or disrupted because of problems with a student’s internet connection, device, software or other equipment outside our control.

10.3. Where a lesson is materially disrupted because of a technical failure within British Tutors’ reasonable control, we will take reasonable steps to remedy the situation, which may include rescheduling, providing replacement teaching or another appropriate solution.

11. Data Protection & Privacy

British Tutors collects and uses personal information in accordance with applicable UK data protection law.

Information may be shared with tutors, payment providers, technology providers and other service providers where reasonably necessary to operate and deliver our services.

12. Changes to Courses

British Tutors may make reasonable changes to course content, teaching arrangements, tutors, lesson schedules or platforms where necessary to maintain or improve the service.

We will not make material changes that substantially reduce the service purchased without providing an appropriate remedy where required.

13. Changes to These Terms

British Tutors may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.

Any updated Terms will apply to future purchases from the date they are published.

Where a material change affects an existing booking, the terms applicable at the time of purchase will normally continue to apply unless the change is required by law or has been agreed with the customer.

14. Our Responsibility to You

British Tutors will provide its services with reasonable care and skill.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited, or affects a consumer’s statutory rights.

15. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer, you may also have rights to bring proceedings in the courts applicable to the part of the United Kingdom in which you live.
